AI Visibility

AI visibility is whether the machines answering people's questions know your business exists. Not whether you rank — whether you get named. Someone asks an assistant which accountant handles freelancers, or which tool solves a problem you happen to solve, and the reply either mentions you or mentions somebody else.

The strange part is how hard it is to notice. A search engine leaves traces: rankings, impressions, visitors arriving with a record of where they came from. An answer engine leaves almost none. When it declines to mention you, nothing is logged anywhere, no visitor fails to arrive in a way you can count, and no dashboard turns red. You are simply absent from a conversation you were never told was happening.

What determines it is mostly clarity and corroboration. A machine can only pass along what it can read plainly and has some reason to trust. If what you do, who you do it for, where you are and what it costs are stated in plain language and stated consistently — on your own site, and anywhere else you appear — you are easy to include. If those facts are vague, buried in images, or contradict each other across the web, the machine reaches for a source it finds clearer.

It is worth treating as a question rather than a number. There is no single score that settles it, and anyone selling you one is simplifying. The useful habit is to ask an assistant what your customers would ask it, read the answer honestly, and notice whether you are in it. Most businesses have never run that test once, and the ones who fix what it reveals are fixing it while it is still painless.
